Rug Care

We recommend taking the following preventive measures to ensure that you enjoy your new rug to the full extent for a long time.

Turn the rug
Rugs that can be used on both sides should be turned over at least once a year to extend their life.

Rotate the rug
For even wear, rotate the rug periodically to keep the appearance uniform.

Vacuum cleaning
Vacuum the rug periodically for maintenance and to keep dirt and debris from becoming embedded in the pile. Vacuum with a flat nozzle and avoid using the brush attachment.

Loose ends
Individual wool fibres or wool curls may loosen during use. Please do not pull the fibres out of the rug. Cut the projecting wool ends off at the surface of the rug with a pair of scissors.

Rug placement

The placement of the rug is important to maintain the look, feel, and longevity. Exposure to direct sunlight over long periods can cause the colour of the rug to fade. Rugs in high traffic areas must be maintained at high levels, vacuuming, and ensuring the rug is kept in good condition. When placing furniture on top of a rug, set it down lightly, then move it slightly in the direction of the pile at least once a week.

Do not keep your rugs in damp or wet areas to avoid mold growth.

Removing stains

The most effective way to remove stains is to treat them immediately. If a liquid is spilled onto the rug, place an absorbent unprinted paper cloth or moist cotton cloth on the stain. Dab the affected area with a moist, undyed cotton cloth. DO NOT RUB in circular motions while applying pressure.

If the rug is soiled by coarse dirt, let the dirt completely dry, then remove it with a vacuum cleaner. If the stain persists, it is best to contact a carpet cleaning specialist.

Care by material

Knowing how to care for your rugs is essential to keeping them in great condition. Every material has specific guidelines to avoid damage or excessive wear and tear. These instructions will help ensure the longevity of your rug for years to come. For additional questions on caring for your rug, contact a team member or rug care specialist.

Wool
Wool rugs are known for piling and shedding. Vacuum as necessary and rotate the rug per recommendation. Avoid pulling fibres from the surface pile and trim any excess fibres back to the surface pile. Clean spills immediately by blotting with a clean sponge or cloth. Avoid rubbing.

Viscose
Viscose never has the same appearance after coming in contact with spills or any type of moisture. It is best to immediately clean any spills by blotting with a clean sponge or cloth. Avoid rubbing.

Natural fibres
Jute, sisal, and hemp rugs will change over time, especially when exposed to sunlight. To keep the appearance fresh, vacuum regularly. Any visible or loose dirt should be vacuumed using a strong brush-suction vacuum. Avoid using the beater bar on these rugs. Natural fibre does not have the same appearance after it has come in contact with spills or moisture. For the best results, it is recommended to contact a rug cleaning specialist.
