Custom-Made Rugs: What to Expect
When you decide to create a custom rug, we will guide you through every step of the process. After finalising your design, we will require payment to be made. Our team will then prepare a detailed digital rendering of your rug for your review and approval. This artwork is typically completed within 48 hours. Once you’ve approved the design, we will move forward with production.
Lead Time for Custom Rugs
Please be aware that custom-made rugs require a production lead time of approximately 14-16 weeks. This timeline ensures that your rug is crafted to the highest standards and tailored precisely to your specifications.
What is the best rug for people with allergies?
Flat-weave rugs are ideal for dust allergy sufferers. With their low profile and no pile, they trap fewer allergens than carpets. The open weave allows dust to fall through, making it easier to clean underneath. Regular vacuuming with a HEPA filter is recommended to remove dust mites and keep your rug looking fresh. Don’t forget to clean under the rug weekly as well.
Will there be variation in rug size or colour?
Due to the handcrafted nature of our rugs, slight variations in size are to be expected. The dimensions of your rug may vary by up to 3% from the measurements provided at the time of order. This small discrepancy is a natural outcome of the artisanal process and adds to the unique character of each piece.
When it comes to colour, every effort is made to ensure consistency; however, some variation is inevitable. Factors such as dye lots, natural fibres, and the handcrafting process can result in subtle differences in colour. In line with the Australian Standard for Carpet Colour Variation, a variation of up to 5% is considered acceptable. This slight difference in colour adds to the distinctiveness of each rug, making your piece truly one-of-a-kind.
We strive to maintain the highest quality and consistency in our products, and any variations are a testament to the craftsmanship involved in creating your hand-made rug.
How can I reduce colour fading?
Natural fibres are sensitive to sunlight, and exposure will inevitably lead to some degree of colour fading over time. While there isn’t a one-size-fits-all rule, the intensity and duration of sunlight exposure are the key factors that affect fading. To preserve the vibrancy of your rug, it’s advisable to minimise exposure to harsh sunlight, particularly the strong western sun.
One effective way to reduce fading is to rotate your rug regularly. By doing so, you can distribute any sun exposure more evenly, which helps to prevent one area from fading more quickly than others. Additionally, consider using window treatments such as curtains or blinds to shield your rug from direct sunlight during peak hours. If possible, place your rug in areas of your home that receive less intense sunlight.
Taking these precautions can help maintain the colour and beauty of your rug for many years to come.
Why does my furniture create indentations in my rug?
Heavy furniture can cause indentations in your rug by compressing the pile under its weight. Over time, this pressure can flatten the fibres and leave noticeable marks.
To minimize these indentations, consider using furniture caps or pads under the legs of your furniture. These protective caps distribute the weight more evenly and reduce the pressure on your rug. Additionally, regularly rotating your rug can help prevent uneven wear and lessen the impact of indentations.

Rug Warranty Policy for Trade and Wholesale Customers
Due to the handmade nature of our rugs, they are not covered by an unconditional warranty. However, Bayliss Rugs will evaluate any rug for structural defects within 12 months of purchase and determine if it qualifies for repair or replacement, provided it has been used in normal domestic settings and cared for according to our maintenance guidelines, available on the back of your Bayliss rug or on our website. The decision to repair or replace is at the sole discretion of Bayliss Rugs, and we reserve the right to attempt repairs prior to offering a replacement.
In cases where a replacement is required, we will provide the same rug if available. If the original is no longer in stock, a comparable product of equal value will be offered. Please note, this warranty is voided by improper or negligent use. The warranty does not cover damages caused by improper cleaning, chemical exposure, water or flood damage, fading due to sunlight, misuse, resizing, pet accidents, or general wear and tear.
Manufacturing variations, as previously described, are not classified as defects. To initiate a warranty claim, please submit photographic evidence to support your request.
Other Warranties
For rugs purchased through a stockist, the warranty provided by the stockist will apply. Please contact the stockist directly for any warranty claims.
